  • What should I do if I need to change the assignment details?

Where possible, changes should be made in ISIS before the assignment has been generated in Blackboard.

If the assessment has already fed into Blackboard, please contact your School Student and Programme Support team and they will request that the assessment is data fixed in both ISIS and Blackboard.

  • How do I adjust a mark once it has already been released?

Only agreed marks should be released.

If a mark must be changed once it has been released, you can change it in the Grade Centre but it is essential that you also ensure that your faculty ISIS administrator update ISIS manually in line with your change. Editing a mark in the Grade Centre will NOT update ISIS.

  • Can I use SafeAssign with ISIS generated assignments?

By default, ISIS fed assignments will automatically be set up to use SafeAssign. The SafeAssign report will display to the marker when viewig the attempt in the Grade Centre.

  • What time is used for student submissions?

The date and time of a submission is taken from the Blackboard server at the point the submission completes - not when the student presses the Submit button.

All times are UK time. The submission date and time is shown to the student in their receipt on the Blackboard Coursework area.

If the date and time on a student‎s computer is incorrect, this will not affect the date and time recorded in Blackboard.

  • How do students make a submission?

Students can either access the assignment from the Coursework area in Blackboard, or directly from the Assignments area within the course.

Students need to click on the title of the assignment to enter into it. They will see your instructions and the assignment information first and will need to scroll down slightly to browse to their files.

We have guidance for students on Viewing and Submitting Assignments - there is a link to this guidance in the default assignment instruction text.

  • How do students check their submissions?

Students are advised to access their submission receipts via the Coursework area in Blackboard.

A receipt for every submission a student makes to a Blackboard assignment will be detailed here. The student clicks on a submission date and time to view the receipt. The are advised to make sure that they can open any files they attached to their submission from their receipt.

Please see our guidance for staff on the Coursework area in Blackboard.

  • How do students view their marks and feedback?

Students access their marks and feedback via the Coursework area in Blackboard.

Every submission a student makes to an assignment will be detailed here. The mark and feedback will be listed against the marked submission (the latest submission attempt made).

We have guidance for students on The coursework area and also some guidance for staff: Student Coursework area.

  • Errors on release of marks

Should you get any error messages when releasing marks, please contact Learning & Research Systems.

If using the Spreadsheet Marking facility, the two main possible causes of errors on release of marks are as follows:

    1. Instructor clicks the Release button two (or more) times for the same package
Resulting in an error “Failed to release: Marks already exist for one or more students”

Please contact the Learning & Research Systems team so that the state of your release can be checked.

    2. Instructor clicks the Release button for two (or more) different packages in quick succession
Resulting in an error “Failed to release: You can only release one package at a time. Re-upload and release each failed package.”

Please re-upload and release any packages that have failed to release. If the problem persists, please contact Learning & Research Systems.
