Copying a Panopto recording

If you have accidentally made your recording in the wrong Panopto folder, or if you want to use a recording in more than one course, you can copy a recording to a different Panopto folder.

Important:

If you have already performed a full course copy in Blackboard, which will have copied over Panopto Course folders/links, embedded recordings and recording links into your new module run, then you will need to be aware of the following;

If you are using a Panopto course folder

The link to a Panopto course folder will copy into the new course when using a full Blackboard course copy. However, the link will be provisioned to the new Panopto course folder (for the new cohort of students), and the new Panopto folder will be empty. If any previous recordings are required they will need to be copied in the Panopto cloud to the new folder.

If you are using an old Panopto building block link (pre LTI)

Old Panopto links by default will only work for the cohort they were recorded for. This may not be obvious to you because the links will work for you, if you are enrolled on both the old and new module runs (because you have the relevant permissions to view Panopto content on both module runs). However, for students on the new module run, they will be denied access to the recordings and will receive an automated email to this effect.

If you are using a Panopto embed or embed link

Panopto embeds and embed links create separate permissions on the individual recording they relate to. Panopto will automatically update the permissions on a recording when an embed is clicked. So, if your recording was made to the 24/25 folder and the embed was copied or created in the 25/26 course, the embed should continue to work for the new cohort of students (it should work for anybody who can click the embed or embed link)

To copy a Panopto recording(s) in the Panopto cloud

  1. Access the Panopto cloud site via https://uwe.cloud.panopto.eu
  2. Click Sign in
  3. Enter your UWE login details and click Login (if required)
  4. Click Browse
  5. Click My Folders
  6. Click the folder containing your Panopto recordings

  1. Hover the mouse pointer over the recording to be copied
  2. Select the tick box (top left on the recording thumbnail) for the recording(s) you wish to copy.
  3. Select the Copy icon.

  1. On the Copy session(s) to page, search for the Panopto folder that you want to copy the recording into. Either enter text to search or select from the drop down list.
  2. Once you’ve selected the folder to copy into select Copy.
  3. When the copy has finished, exit using the top right x.

  1. When the copy has finished you can close the Panopto cloud site.
  2. You will need to re-create any old style Panopto links (pre-embeded links) to the recordings you have copied in your Blackboard course, see our guidance on Linking to Panopto recordings from Blackboard
