ISIS Group Conventions

ISIS field Status Action
Internal organisation: Already populated Default to user School or Service (browse only)
Group Name: mandatory for ISIS and for Blackboard Must be unique in the School or Service within the time frame. For example: the group name NUMERACY SKILLS can be used more than once as long as the dates do not overlap.

It is recommended that you append the final two characters of the start year (e.g. 08) to the group title to ensure you can distinguish between years when the same group title is used. Maximum of 60 characters including spaces.

Start date: mandatory for ISIS and for Blackboard The start date of the student group. See the important notes below for further details.
End date: mandatory for Blackboard The end date of the student group. See the important notes below for further details.
Group code: mandatory for Blackboard The format must follow the convention:
SCH1 -[4 character free text]-MTH2 YR3
The group code must be unique within the School or Service.
Use characters A to Z, 0-9 and _ (underscore) only.
Group type code: mandatory for Blackboard

The group type codes of:

BLACKBOARD COURSE
NON-CREDIT BEARING COURSE

appear in the 'drop down' list of types available and must be used for Blackboard access purposes.

Cost centre: mandatory for NCB course type Appropriate HEFCE-defined subject area, e.g. "11 - Chemistry"
Contact hours: mandatory for NCB course type The total duration of teaching activities per student, in hours.

1 School and Service codes are: BBS, BNE, BRIT, EDU, HAR, HLSS, HS, HSC, LAW, LIB, SAF, SCA, SOLS.

2 Month of the start of the student group run (three characters e.g. SEP)

3 Year of the start of the student group run (two characters e.g. 04)

Important Notes for Student Groups of type BLACKBOARD

Note 1

The start date and end date set up on ISIS must match exactly those dates that have been approved by the Student Group Approvals Group.

For staff access to Blackboard it is important that the staff attachment link start date is set up correctly:

If the staff attachment link start date: Staff access to Blackboard will:
Exactly matches the student group start date Start 365 days before the student group start date and the staff attachment link start date (lead-in time)
Is after the student group start date Start on the staff attachment link start date

Again, for staff access to Blackboard it is important that the staff attachment link end date is set up correctly:

If the staff attachment link end date: Staff access to Blackboard will:
Exactly matches the student group end date End 180 days after the end of the student group and the staff attachment to the group (lead-out time)
Is before the end date of the student group End on the staff attachment end date
