Law professional body requirements

Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP)

You will have received notification of the professional body requirements in your joining instruction pack. This guidance is just a reminder of the requirements depending on your professional body.

All evidence will need to be presented to the BILP registration team so it can be recorded that you have satisfied the professional body requirements and if necessary a copy may be retained.

LLM ALP - Advanced Legal Practice Course

  1. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have completed the Academic Stage of Training before commencing the LPC (for most this will be in the form of obtaining a Qualifying Law Degree or a Graduate Diploma in Law/CPE). If you have any queries about your eligibility then you should contact your degree/GDL provider to confirm the status of the course you studied. You should also consult the SRA website if you have any concerns regarding your suitability to become a solicitor.
  2. If English is not your first language and you did not complete your undergraduate studies in the UK, then a certificate will be required from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (or the equivalent) recording a score of at least 7.5.

LLM BPTS - Bar Professional Training Studies

We require evidence of the following:

  1. Inn of Court membership - this can be in the form of your Inn membership acceptance letter or your Inn member ID card.
  2. Confirmation of results - in the form of your degree certificate.
  3. Proof of completion of the Bar Course Aptitude test.
  4. If English is not your first language and you did not complete your undergraduate studies in the UK, then a certificate will be required from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (or the equivalent) recording a score of at least 7.5.

GDL/CPE - Graduate Diploma in Law (or the Common Professional Examination)

We require evidence of the following:

  1. Confirmation of results in the form of your degree certificate.
  2. If English is not your first language, your certificate from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) recording a score of at least 7.5.
