Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of this module students will be able to demonstrate:

    v the ability to define a coherent and practicable topic within Media and Cultural Studies that is of special interest to them;

    v the ability to clearly identify research questions to structure enquiries;

    v familiarity with the relevant debates;

    v the ability to work independently on research, to gather, organise, present and interpret research;

    v the ability to explain and evaluate research methods and to construct clear and persuasive arguments supported with appropriate examples;

    v the ability to produce work to required length and high presentation standards.

Syllabus outline:

The module consists of two main parts:

Workshops will help students develop and focus ideas, learn about research methods and resources, and to write a dissertation proposal.

Individual Tuition: students will be assigned a dissertation supervisor. Their role is to guide students individually through the process of researching and writing up their dissertation.

Teaching and learning methods:

This module will be delivered through workshops and individual tuition as detailed in the syllabus outline.

Reading Strategy

Students are expected to develop their own reading, based on the needs of their individual projects. Lecturers will support this research and make suggestions, but the module does not have set reading.
