UWE Bristol rises to 21st place in UK in Guardian University Guide 2021

UWE Bristol has climbed to 21^st place in the UK in the latest annual Guardian university league table.

The university rose seven places in the newspaper’s 2021 higher education guide to its best ever position and is now the highest ranked of all the Post-1992 universities.

The rise was driven by UWE Bristol’s strong scores in the National Student Survey, with the Guardian ranking the university 7^th in the UK for student satisfaction with course and 9^th for student satisfaction with teaching.

UWE Bristol is ranked 4th in the South West and 15^th in England in the highly-respected guide, which rated 121 institutions based on factors including student satisfaction scores, employment prospects, financial outlay and average entry tariffs.

In the subject tables, the university achieved five top 10 positions this year: Education (2^nd), Film Production & Photography (4^th), Social Work (5^th), Mathematics (8^th) and Philosophy (8^th).

The 2021 rankings are based on data collected before the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. It is the first league table to use new data which gauges graduate jobs 15 months after graduation rather than after six months, and is thought to more accurately capture graduate employability.

Professor Steve West, Vice-Chancellor at UWE Bristol, said: “It’s rewarding to see the continued hard work of staff, students and the whole university community being recognised with our new position in the Guardian table. This latest improvement represents our third consecutive climb up the table and puts us top among the UK’s post-92 universities, so it is a remarkable achievement of which we should all be very proud.”
