National Teaching Fellowship Award for UWE Bristol Professor

Professor Catherine Hobbs, Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Environment and Technology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), has won a National Teaching Fellowship Award. The award recognises academic teaching excellence and is awarded by Advance HE.

Speaking about her award, Catherine said: “I am delighted to have the honour of being awarded a National Teaching Fellowship Award, it's been a fantastic opportunity to reflect on my teaching career and I've particularly valued receiving the positive feedback from my students and colleagues which supported my application.”

Catherine's award recognises her pioneering use of inquiry-based teaching, including the flipped classroom, as well as the use of technology-enhanced learning.

She uses technology such as voting systems to enhance the learning experience for students and she has had a key role in supporting the development of skills for employability, through extra-curricular activities like Formula Student and the Women in Science and Engineering student societies.

Creating ambassadors for innovative and impactful teaching who are valued by institutions and colleagues, and who can set in motion change and enhancements to make a really positive impact on student experience.”

Catherine will be presented with her award at the UK Teaching Excellence Awards Ceremony on 16 October 2019 in Manchester.
