What are the future challenges for healthcare and its leadership?

'The Challenge for Healthcare and its Leadership' is the theme of this year's Annual Bolland Lecture at UWE Bristol Exhibition and Conference Centre on Tuesday 25 June 2013.

The Bolland Lecture 2013, is held in partnership withBusiness West and Great Western Air Ambulance Charity

This year's lecture will be delivered by Sir Ian Carruthers OBE, Chancellor of the University, who will be talking about his experiences in the NHS, global trends and the future.

Sir Ian has brought a wealth of experience to his role at the University. He was previously Chief Executive of the NHS South of England and his career in the National Health Service (NHS) spans over 40 years. He received a Knighthood in the 2003 New Year's Honours List for services to the NHS and in 2006 he took over as Interim Chief Executive of the NHS, amongst the largest organisations in the world, having 1.3 million employees and a budget in excess of £100 billion. He has been the lead author on several papers on reviewing and improving the NHS and is seen as an international expert on healthcare systems and service delivery. Sir Ian has been Chancellor of UWE Bristol since July 2011.

An audience of over 350 is expected including over 100 leaders from the health sector, as well as local government leaders, UWE academics and alumni.

In addition to attending the lecture, over 200 guests will tour Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL), the leading and largest academic centre for multi-disciplinary robotics research in the UK, including research into medical robotics.

There will also be an exhibition in the foyer of the UWE Exhibition Centre with exhibitors including, iNets, UWE's Institute of Biosensing Technology, Medilink, UWE's Centre for Health and Clinical Research, UWE Careers, Great Western air Ambulance, North Bristol NHS Trust, West of England Academic Health Science Network and Bristol Health Partnership.
