Creative courses at UWE Bristol given industry stamp of approval

Issue date: 03 January 2013

A number of exciting and creative courses at UWE Bristol have recently had confirmed accreditation from Creative Skillset, the industry body which supports skills and training for people and businesses to ensure the UK creative industries maintain their world class position.

The courses receiving this rigorously judged accreditation include BA(Hons) Graphic Design; BA(Hons) Filmmaking and Creative Media; MA/MSc Creative Media Technologies and the MA Animation.

Dr Lisa Harrison, Associate Dean in the Faculty of Creative Industries at UWE Bristol says, “We are delighted to get the stamp of approval from Creative Skillset. This approval recognises the strong practice-based focus of these programmes. This includes everything from curriculum content, the input of industry professionals as guest speakers and placement providers to the employment and awards records of our graduates. “We are confident that this is the start of a widening portfolio of accredited programmes.

Further work is in development so that BA(Hons) Photography, BA(Hons) Animation and the MA Wildlife Filmmaking will also be recognised as Skillset accredited programmes. “Across the faculty we are strategically committed to delivering programmes that are practice-based, outwardly-focussed and innovative, that develop the skills requirements of relevant regional industries and employers, fostered by a culture of partnership - Creative Skillset accreditation is an important step to achieving this.” Lynn Barlow, Director of Creative Media at UWE Bristol said, “The department is fortunate to have a series of industry partnerships - from the Natural History Unit at the BBC to Aardman Animation and BOVTS – which mean students learn from both academics and professionals as they develop their talents.”
