UWE Bristol becomes CISI Centre of Excellence

Issue date: 06 December 2012

The University of the West of England has signed an agreement with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) which recognises the University as a Centre of Excellence in Finance teaching.

Professor Jon Tucker, Director of the Centre for Global Finance at UWE Bristol, said, “We have a long established link with the CISI and we are thrilled to be awarded the Centre of Excellence status. We look forward to our masters students graduating with both a UWE MSc Finance degree and the CISI Diploma which will provide them with a firm foundation for a career in finance.”

The partnership between a Chartered Institute and a higher education institution is seen as an excellent opportunity for students to bridge the gap between academia and the work place.

Ruth Martin, Managing Director of the CISI, said, “We are delighted to be working with UWE Bristol which clearly recognises that a professional qualification, undertaken as part of a challenging and high quality undergraduate programme, can ensure a student gains a competitive edge in the jobs market.”

Isabel Kwok, CISI Regional President for Bristol and Bath said, “As a former UWE Bristol student, it is great to see the University awarded this accolade and we look forward to developing a strong alliance with them to enable current and future investment professionals to expand their knowledge base.”

The Agreement allows the University to submit its Masters programmes to be considered for equivalence in respect of the CISI Diploma. This includes accreditation for the delivery of courses leading to CISI examinations and to use other CISI accredited training providers for selected papers if needed. The agreement also includes eligibility to submit Undergraduate programmes for consideration for part or full exemption in respect of CISI exams and to develop Undergraduate programmes by embedding CISI units within it, working with the CISI to identify those units.

The UWE MSc Finance graduates will be eligible for full Membership (MCSI) of CISI and UWE Undergraduate degrees will be eligible for Associate (ACSI) membership of CISI, subject to the content of the Degree programme.
