Silas Adekunle and the team at Reach Robotics are celebrating today as Reach announced it is joining Qualcomm Robotics Accelerator in San Diego, US. The accelerator will support the Reach team with the final challenging steps to the launch of their Mecha Monsters robot gaming system. “The Qualcomm Robotics Accelerator, powered by Techstars, is helping robotics start-ups take their ideas to the next level and transform the world … one robot at a time.“

Open Bionics shortlisted for Inclusive Technology Prize

Open Bionics has been named as one of the 25 innovations that will make the UK more accessible to the 1 in 5 people with disabilities.
The start-up of four based at the Technology Business Incubator at Bristol Robotics Laboratory, is one of 25 designers and entrepreneurs to have been shortlisted out of 200 pitches for the Inclusive Technology prize. They are now in with the chance to win a £50,000 prize for a technology, product or service that enables disabled people in the UK better access to life's opportunities.

Over the past few years the personalisation of healthcare devices has been a growing trend in the maker-sphere.
From gold-plated hearing aids, neon walking sticks, and sparkling blade prosthetics to 3D printed arm casts, people with disabilities are no longer waiting for health services to catch up, they are dragging their medical devices into the future on their own.
These medical aids are getting a long-awaited makeover and today it's the turn of the bionic hand with Open Bionics unveiling of their latest 3D printed prosthetic at London's 'Wearable Tech Show'.

Alliance universities securing the future of UK research through collaboration and connectivity

Research from UWE to be presented to MPs and ministers at Westminster

Two UWE Bristol researchers have had projects selected for presentation to MPs and ministers at SET for Britain 2015.
Iwona Gajda and Tareq Assaf, both from the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL), a major research collaboration between UWE Bristol and the University of Bristol, will present posters outlining their projects on 9 March at SET for Britain 2015.

UWE expert wins funding for research into personalised medicines

Dr Wendy Phillips from the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) is part of a new link-up between academia and industry to improve the efficiency of healthcare product manufacturing.
The project won £465,000 funding from the Engineering and Physical Services Research Council (EPSRC) to research Re-Distributed Manufacturing (RDM) in Healthcare. The project is being led by Dr Phillips, together with Professor Nick Medcalf from Loughborough University.
