A pair of socks embedded with miniaturised microbial fuel cells (MFCs) and fuelled with urine pumped by the wearer's footsteps has powered a wireless transmitter to send a signal to a PC. This is the first self-sufficient system powered by a wearable energy generator based on microbial fuel cell technology.

A free self-help app for anxiety (SAM app) conceived and co-designed by experts at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has been downloaded by over 500,000 users from around the globe in more than 100 countries since its launch in July 2013. It has been in the top 100 Health and Fitness Apps in 85 countries and received thousands of positive reviews.

The Rooms – A celebration of inventions to change and brighten the world
