  • UWE Bristol Law students win 'Speaking Championship' in Cambodia

    Three law students from UWE Bristol have just returned triumphant from Cambodia after winning the International Springboard-Kaplan English Speaking Championship 2013.

    The event took place at Chatomok Convention Hall, Phnom Penh on 24 January 2013.

    UWE's Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP) is offering an exciting new work placement opportunity to students as part of a new collaboration with leading international law firm CMS McKenna.

    UWE's best performing Civil Litigation and Property LPC (Legal Practice Course) students will be interviewed for the chance to join CMS McKenna's Bristol office in summer 2013 for a work placement.

    The event, now in its third year, is steadily growing and this year attracted over 20 local and regional law firms as well as seven barristers' Chambers as exhibitors. The exhibitors' stands were again located in the actual LPC and BPTC teaching rooms, and this created the unusually direct atmosphere in which BILP students could meet the local employers, and vice versa. The fair was preceded by informative presentations of the LPC, BPTC and GDL courses to undergraduate students who are considering a career in the Law.

  • UWE debate to focus on legalisation of prostitution

    A debate organised by the Women Law Students Forum at UWE Bristol will feature Julie Bindel, a renowned feminist freelance journalist who will argue against the legalisation and decriminalisation of prostitution and Jean Johnson, a WI Representative campaigning for the legalisation of brothels in the UK. The debate will take place at the Frenchay Campus of UWE at 16:30 on Monday 2 April 2012.

  • UWE Bristol and Bristol Law Society launch Legal Practice Work Placement Scheme 2012

    UWE Bristol and Bristol Law Society have jointly launched the 2012 work placement scheme exclusively for UWE Bristol Legal Practice Course students.

    UWE Bristol's LPC students will again be placed with firms in Bristol and beyond. Last year a number of students were able to secure legal employment on the basis of the scheme.

    Rebecca Berryman, a Law graduate from the University of the West of England, has co-organised a major concert, 'Gloryfest 2011' that will highlight awareness of child abuse and its impact on our community.

    'Gloryfest 2011' brings together people from all backgrounds and takes place at the Colston Hall in Bristol on Sunday 18 September at 19:00.
