Cary Comes Home - UWE Bristol supports first festival for Bristol screen icon

Vintage clothing, red carpets and paparazzi, students and staff from UWE Bristol are helping to recreate some old style Hollywood glamour in bringing Bristol's favourite son, Cary Grant back to our screens at the Bristol Hippodrome, as part of a two day festival in the city, Cary Grant Comes Home For The Weekend (11-12 October 2014).
UWE Bristol is a major festival sponsor, working with The Bristol Hippodrome and Watershed to host this inaugural festival celebrating how Bristol-born, Archie Leach changed his name and his fortunes to become internationally famous film star Cary Grant, yet never forgot his Bristol roots. The event includes talks, tours, cocktails and film-making challenge.

UWE artists on show in WW1 centenary exhibition programme at Royal West of England Academy

Artists and academics from UWE Bristol are playing a prominent part in an exhibition programme to remember World War 1 at the Royal West of England Academy.
The exhibition programme is called Back From the Front, starts on 19 July and is in three parts. The first part, entitled Brothers in Art, shows paintings by the major British war artists Paul Nash and John Nash. Professor Paul Gough, formerly UWE Deputy Vice-Chancellor, is curator of the entire exhibition programme and in July will publish a book entitled 'Brothers in Arms' to coincide with the show.

Graphic design student Jake Gunn from UWE Bristol has just won Best Student Book of the year for his book Seven Samurai. UWE graduate Sherony Lock was one of the shortlisted designers and received a highly commended award for her interpretation of Jane Eyre.

The Honorary Degree will be conferred at the Awards Ceremony of the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education on Tuesday 23 July at Bristol Cathedral.

UWE Bristol offers 3D printing to all students

UWE Bristol is leading the way amongst UK universities by making 3D printing technology available to all students by locating a 3D printer in the main university library.
It is believed to be the first 3D printer in an academic library in the UK. The new initiative is made possible through a donation from 3D Systems Limited.
3D print technology, also known as additive layer manufacturing, is a rapidly developing technology with applications in manufacturing, engineering and academic research. It is sometimes available to university students on relevant courses – such as creative product design or engineering courses. For example UWE Bristol already has 3D printers within the Faculty of Technology and in the leading Centre for Fine Print Research.

Project Zulu, a group of 10 student teachers and two tutors from UWE Bristol will bravely take on the chilly waters of the Bristol Channel for a charity swim to raise funds to bring a South African primary school to Bristol next June.
