Bristol Distinguished Address Series: Developing the right skills for the future of the UK aerospace industry

With a 17 percent share of the market, the UK is Europe's largest aerospace manufacturing sector and is second only to the United States globally. Airbus' plants in Filton, near Bristol, and Broughton, North Wales, play a vital role in the design and production of some of the world's most popular and technologically advanced aircraft and make a significant contribution to the success of the UK's aerospace sector which supports around 128,000 high value, highly skilled jobs.
In the opening lecture of this autumn's Bristol Distinguished Address Series, Mark Stewart, General Manager and Human Resources Director, Airbus Operations Ltd and HR Director Airbus Group UK, will set out how the UK aerospace industry is meeting the challenge to get the best people with the right skills to design and manufacture the next generations of civil aircraft in the UK.

Healthcare manufacture brought into our living rooms

Imagine a future where patients are enabled to print tablets designed to their genetic makeup or where bespoke prosthetics could be printed locally on demand.
A research network called 'Redistributed Manufacturing in Healthcare Network' (RiHN) led by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has won Engineering and Physical Services Research Council (EPSRC) funding to investigate how technology advances could mean manufacturing of healthcare products are brought closer to users; in some cases as close as their own front room.

Business and Law Clinic launches at UWE Bristol's £16.5m Enterprise Zone 'Future Space'

As part of its new University Enterprise Zone ("UEZ") activity, the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) is launching a pro bono legal service for small businesses in collaboration with Bristol law firm Gregg | Latchams Ltd and international legal practice Osborne Clarke LLP. This support will be provided within the new Future Space Centre on Frenchay Campus.

£50 million UWE Business and Law building is a step closer
