UWE Bristol award Honorary Degree to Ann Francke

UWE Bristol awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration to Ann Francke in recognition of her outstanding achievement in business administration.
The Honorary Degree was conferred at the Awards Ceremony of the Faculty of Business and Law on Wednesday 15 July 2015 at Bristol Cathedral.

Time stands still for start of landmark £50m building

The first stage of construction on UWE Bristol's landmark £50m Faculty of Business and Law will be marked by a 'time capsule' being buried on site on Tuesday 7 July.
The 'time capsule' containing significant items suggested by students, staff and alumni will be buried on 7 July at 17:30 by University Chancellor Sir Ian Carruthers.

Massive marine reserve announced in Budget

In today's budget speech [18 March 2015] the coalition government announced its intention to designate the world's largest marine reserve around Pitcairn Islands. This puts the UK close to presiding over the largest amount of fully protected waters on Earth. America is currently ahead by a few thousand square kilometres after the creation of the extended Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument reserve by President Obama last summer. The UK will now have 1.49m square kilometres of fully protected reserves, compared with the US on 1.57m sq kilometres post this Pitcairn announcement.

Alliance universities securing the future of UK research through collaboration and connectivity

The resource – which can be found at www.unialliance.ac.uk/research – contains more than 60 impact case studies submitted by Alliance universities to the REF 2014 exercise.

Leading experts debate the future of criminal justice

The University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) in partnership with the Prison Reform Trust will today (Wednesday 3 December 2014) host a one day conference on the future direction of the criminal justice system at the Watershed in Bristol.
The conference follows the recent launch of a report by the Prison Reform Trust which highlights the impact of drastic staff and budget cuts on safety, decency and rehabilitation behind bars.

UWE lawyer takes part in 'wild law' event to save marine life from destruction

Tom Appleby from UWE's Environmental Law Unit will be speaking at the UK Environmental Law Association meeting Wild Law: Saving the Marine Environment on 23 October in London. The meeting brings together experts on the legal steps needed to preserve life in the seas.
The event will be held at international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and will be simultaneously screened at UWE.
