BA Graphic Design students from the University of the West of England have had their work recognised as being 'of a consistently high standard' by FontStruct – the online type design tool, sponsored by the world's leading retailer of digital type, FontShop.

Exciting new Foundation Degree courses announced for 2011

From September 2011 UWE's Department of Art and Design will be offering two exciting new pathways* of the Foundation Degree (FdA) in Creative Practices.
Based at the Bower Ashton campus, each pathway is three year part time course, allowing students to undertake study at undergraduate level, while continuing to work in a related industry.

Aardman Digital talk this Friday lnchtime

Dan Efergan, Creative Director of Digital at Aardman Animations will be speaking at the Pervasive Media Studio on Friday 10 December. The event is free of charge for UWE staff and students.
The Pervasive Media Studio is the base for UWE's Digital Cultures Research Centre and opens its doors every Friday lunchtime for informal talks by Studio residents and associates.

UWE Photography student gains international recognition

Marcus Riley, a first year Photography student at UWE, has won a prize in a major international photography competition.
The International Aperture Awards is an annual competition with nine 'open categories', including sport, commercial and journalism, and three amateur categories, attracting entries from professional and budding photographers from around the world.

The University of the West of England will award the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Arts to Dick Penny in recognition of his significance to Bristol's cultural media and his work in aligning a range of people to influence national debate and strengthen Bristol's status within it.

UWE student named Clarke Willmott Young Artist of the Year

University of the West of England student, Alice Jones, has been awarded the Clarke Willmott Young Artist of the Year Award at a reception hosted by the solicitors firm in their Bristol office.

Inaugural prize for Graphic Design announced

Final year Creative Arts student Rowan Caney has won the inaugural CODA Architecture Design Award for innovation in Graphic Design in a commercial editorial context.
This is the first year that the £750 prize has been awarded. The prize was set up by Amelia Taylor, former co-ordinator of UWE's Creative Arts Enterprise Office, and Ronnie Rennoldson, Director of Bristol-based CODA Architects.

UWE D3 graduate in competition success

A graduate from UWE's School of Creative Arts has won a major prize for a piece of work that she completed as part of her final year project.
Katherine Morgan graduated in July 2009 from BA Design: Process, Material Context (D3) following success with other D3 students at the New Designers exhibition in London, where the group won Best Stand.
