'Glover' software for expressive control of music launched

Music producers and performers can now use a desktop application called Glover that translates their movements into music. Originating from research at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), the application is compatible with a range of motion tracking devices to allow expressive control of music.

New Fintech Master's to prepare students for sector's challenges

The University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) is to launch a Fintech Master's degree in September. The course is set to prepare students for the regulatory and ethical challenges likely to arise around new disruptive technologies, and will give them the chance to gain in-depth knowledge on subjects including cryptocurrencies, Blockchain technology, and financial crime.

Gestural musical gloves now available on pre-order

Gestural musical gloves, technology originally developed at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) by Dr Tom Mitchell, are now available for pre-order through a company called MI.MU. The gloves use motion capture and AI to enable wearers to create music with their movements.

Track by Track - Train passengers make platform for music

Researchers have produced the first computational device operated by 'liquid marbles'

Researchers have published a paper that demonstrations the first laboratory experiment to use liquid marbles to create collision-based computation in research funded by the Research Councils UK RCUK. (EPSRC funded project EP/P016677/1)
The paper entitled 'Liquid Marble Interaction Gate for Collision-Based Computing' is published by Elsevier in Materials Today. The research is led by Professor Andy Adamatzky and Dr Ben De Lacy Costello.

Honorary doctorates in engineering will be awarded to BLOODHOUND Super Sonic Car Chief Engineer, Mark Chapman and Driver, Wing Commander Andy Green and international singer-songwriter, Imogen Heap will receive an honorary doctorate of technology.
