UWE Bristol is proud to once again be a sponsor of Bristol Pride 2019

UWE Bristol is proud to be the Access Sponsor for Bristol Pride which runs from 1 to 12 September.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s festival will take place digitally, enabling people from across Bristol and beyond to join in the celebrations from the comfort of their homes. A range of online activities are planned, including a virtual parade on 12 September which all are welcome to join.

This is the 11th consecutive year that the university has sponsored the much-loved Bristol Pride event which is designed to celebrate the LGBT+ community and overcome prejudice.

The largest provider of higher education in the South West with over 30,000 students and 3,000 staff, UWE Bristol is committed to supporting the LGBT+ community and creating an inclusive environment for staff and students alike. This year, the university was proud to be included in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers; rated as one of the top employers in the UK for LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace.

Marcus Keppel-Palmer and Guy Keith-Miller, coordinators of the LGBT+ Staff Network at UWE Bristol said: “The UWE Bristol LGBT+ Staff Network is delighted to again be associated with Bristol Pride. The past 12 months have shown that hard fought for and hard-won rights for the LGBT+ community have a fragility and Pride remains a strong visible reminder of the presence of and the contribution of the LGBT+ community to our city and the wider community. Please join with us in supporting and celebrating Bristol Pride, virtual though it may be, and continuing to show UWE Bristol to be strong supporters and allies to our community.”

Professor Steve West, Vice-Chancellor of UWE Bristol said: "UWE Bristol are proud once again to be the Access Sponsor of Bristol Pride, ensuring that the fantastic array of activities is accessible for all. Showing our support for Bristol Pride is important to us and our staff and students. We’re proud to be part of this special event, going out virtually from 1 to 12 September this year. Inclusivity is a core value at UWE Bristol and we are committed to celebrating and supporting diversity across our city region."

Augusta Chidinma Nnajiofor, President at The Students’ Union at UWE Bristol, said: "The Students’ Union is delighted that UWE Bristol is the Access Sponsor for this year’s Bristol Pride. Pride is a vital celebration, and we are excited that it can still take place with the digital festival. We cannot wait to bring the atmosphere of Pride into our homes and hope that the events will bring the Bristol community together in a new way.”

Details of the online festival can be found on the Bristol Pride website.
