National Student Money Week – break your bad money habits

Issue date: 28 January 2019

To coincide with National Student Money Week, our very own Student Money Service will be holding a Money Lab between Monday 4 February and Thursday 7 February on Frenchay Campus.

Take part in our fun activities for the chance to win prizes and get some financial advice from our university money experts to help your cash go further.

What is National Student Money Week (NSMW)?

Created by the National Association of Student Money Advisers, NSMW is an annual campaign where universities work together to bring free money advice to students across the UK.

It's all about raising awareness of financial capability and helping you to develop essential money skills. And most importantly, it's about getting you confident about your personal finances. This year's theme is breaking bad money habits.

How can I take part?

Come along to our Money Lab in the Library foyer on Frenchay campus on Monday 4 February, Tuesday 5 February or Thursday 7 February.

Our experts will be on hand to answer your questions about student finance, budgeting, fees, funds, bursaries and anything else you could possibly want to know about money.

Each day we'll cover something new and you'll have the chance to win fantastic prizes!

Monday 4 February: money hacks

Share your best money hacks or answer questions on personal finance for a chance to spin the wheel of fortune and win prizes including UWE Bristol gym passes, piggy banks, notepads, pens and loads of chocolate.

10:00 - 16:00 in Frenchay Library.

Tuesday 5 February: food and shopping

Would you like to brush up on your cooking skills to save money and impress your housemates? Come and guess the difference in price between branded and non-branded baskets of groceries and you could win a £50 voucher to use at Bristol based Little Kitchen cookery school.

10:00 - 13:30 in Frenchay Library.

Thursday 7 February: transport

Commuting can be expensive, so let's talk about saving money on transport. If you answer all of our transport trivia questions correctly, you can win a pack of seven daily bus tickets.

10:00 - 14:00 in Frenchay Library.

Can't join us in person?

If you can't join us in person then make sure you've registered with Blackbullion. It's an online platform with financial education resources and videos to help you get money smart. It's free for UWE Bristol students - just register with your university email address.

You can sign up for Blackbullion's National Student Money Week bootcamp and get five days' worth of useful tips to help you save money.
