To enable students to:
Knowledge and Understanding
i) relate research to the development of a project;
ii) show an understanding of the key issues affecting contemporary photographic practice;
iii) apply for themselves the accepted terminology and conventions in relation to the techniques covered;
iv) consolidate and extend ability and knowledge in the context of professional practices.

vi) employ rigorous thinking processes in the course of observation, investigation, reflection and production;
vii) understand the role of the audience and context in determining a project’s outcomes;

Syllabus Outline:
Students will be required to further their understanding of photographic techniques that they will select for extended research. Students will apply their understanding of their accumulated skills to a project/s and integrate their critical and technical research into their working process. An agreed programme of work will be undertaken in negotiation with a member of staff.
Teaching and Learning Methods:
A series of workshops/demonstrations will run during the module to support the development of practical skills. Progress will be guided by a tutorial-led approach and the use of supporting material (which usually takes the form of a research file) will form a key part of the student’s learning. Assessment will be through the delivery of a project in response to a negotiated brief and the supporting material’. The contextual research includes the student’s project proposal and their response to peer and self-assessment tasks set throughout the module.

Reading Strategy:
The ‘Essential Reading’ is indicated to supplement student understanding of the subjects covered throughout the module. ‘Further Reading’ will guide students through their selected assessment topics and will therefore be based on student interests under the guidance of staff.
