Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to demonstrate:

    1. advanced analytic skills in the critical assessment of philosophical texts

    2. the ability to work independently on a programme of research

    3. the ability to identify and define a research question

    4. advanced skills in argumentation

    5. the ability to identify and define a research topic within philosophy

    6. the ability to organize and execute an extended programme of research.

Syllabus outline:

This will depend on the topic chosen by the student.

Teaching and learning methods:

Seminar to aid students in selecting and beginning a research project, to help define research

series questions or problems. Following the completion of this series,

Tutorials individual project supervisors will be allocated on the basis of agreed topics.

Reading Strategy

Essential reading will be provided electronically or as printed study packs. Students will be encouraged to read widely using the library catalogue, a variety of bibliographic and full text databases, and Internet resources. Guidance to some key authors and journal titles available through the Library will be given on UWE Blackboard. It is expected that assignment bibliographies and reference lists will reflect the range of reading carried out.
