Time: 09:30-11:30

This workshop runs over two sessions. By registering for workshop one, which takes place on 17 January 2022, you’ll also be registered for workshop two.

Unsure whether academia is for you – and what the other options are or where to start? In this two-part workshop we'll revisit reasons for undertaking a doctorate, hear from Hewlett Packard's former Head of Cloud Computing (and PhD Analytical Chemistry), Professor John Manley, why non-academic employers love doctoral graduates, and take some practical first steps toward building a jobhunting network and CV.

By attending these workshops and completing some tasks beforehand and in between, you'll:

  • Recognise – and celebrate! – what you as a doctoral graduate will have to offer non-academic employers
  • Understand the importance of networks in job hunting, and how to begin building these
  • Compose a non-academic CV and cover letter
  • Feel part of UWE Bristol's researcher community

Aimed at: Postgraduate researchers who are interested in career pathways beyond academia. This event is being run in special collaboration with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, but PGRs from across the University are welcome to join us.
