Free 1-2-1 Instrument Lessons with Centre for Music

Our professional team of tutors will provide you with an introduction to Centre for Music (CfM) and tips and advice on how to improve your own performance. Once you have received your free 1-2-1 lesson you may continue lessons via CfM. Lessons will be priced at £32 per hour with bursaries available for students who qualify.

Drums - AJ Rousell
AJ is a professional Drummer and educator. AJ spends his time teaching over 70 students a week, recording and performing as a busy session musician. He is also the organiser and director for The Drummer's Odyssey Camp.

Guitar - Ash Tucker
Ash Tucker is a professional guitarist and songwriter based in Bristol. He performs regularly in function bands as well as his own material and is the main guitar tutor for CfM.

Vocal training - Kim Samuel
Kim established the Bristol based Renewal Choir in 2005 who went on to perform in many public events such as the BBC National Music Day, Leona Lewis UK Tour and the Bristol Harbour Side Festival. Kim currently is currently the Director for the UWE Bristol Gospel choir.

Keyboard / Piano - Alison Howell
Alison is based in Bristol where she works as an accompanist for the Avon and Somerset Constabulary Male Voice Choir, Cheltenham Choral Society, Redmaids' High Junior School Choir and the University of the West of England Singers and Chamber Choir. Alison works as an examiner for the Royal School of Church Music and also teaches piano and organ.

Orchestral Percussion - Ian Evans
Ian is a drummer and percussionist based in the?South West. His musical career so far has seen him work in numerous ensembles ranging from small jazz bands, big bands, function bands, championship winning brass bands, orchestras and?a number of?musical theatre productions.

Strings

Violin / Viola - Tilly Chester
Tilly has performed across the country and Europe and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra. She is currently a member of Paraorchestra with whom she performed with Coldplay at the London Olympics, WOMAD 2019 and Glastonbury. Tilly studied at Chetham's School of Music and at the Royal College of Music and is currently freelancing and teaching in the Bristol area.

Cello - Christine Johnstone
Christine is a well-established cellist and is the string tutor and specialist for the UWE Bristol Orchestra.

Double Bass - Federico Leonori
Federico studied music at the Santa Cecelia Conservatoire in Rome before launching into a freelance career. Based in the South West of England, Fred works as a professional bassist, music teacher and educator.

Woodwind

Flute – Michelle Krawiec
Michelle is a passionate teacher with over 20 years experience. Michelle regularly performs in her flute and harp duo Topaz. As well as being in demand as an extra, she is also Principal flautist with the Brunel Sinfonia and Bristol Classical Players orchestras.

Oboe - Andrew King
Andrew studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduating with Distinction. After a period touring in musicals he has established a freelance teaching/performing career based in Bristol and has been visiting teacher of oboe at Bath Spa University for 20 years. He continues to freelance as a player throughout the UK and has appeared on many television programmes.

Clarinet - David Paglett
David studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and has worked extensively throughout the UK with some of the leading orchestras including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic. David has played in West End productions of Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, 42nd Street and West Side Story. He is currently principal clarinet with the Bristol Ensembles and conducts the South Gloucestershire Youth Wind and Chamber Orchestra.

Saxophone / Clarinet / Improvisation - Keith Morgan
Keith Morgan is currently the Director of the UWE Big Band and Saxfaction. He is an experienced professional player and teacher established in Bristol.

Classical Saxophone / Clarinet - Victoria Middleton
Vicky is an experienced woodwind teacher and performer. She plays and teaches clarinet, saxophone and flute. Vicky studied her BA Hons in Music at Bath Spa University and her MA in Music performance at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She has played with many orchestras, big bands, pit orchestras and wind ensembles throughout the UK and internationally and in many great venues including Birmingham Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Brass

Trumpet – Kris Nock
Kris has over 20 years' experience as a trumpet player and is the founder and director of the Kris Nock Big Band. Kris studied at Bath Spa University, UK, and Montana State University Billings, USA, and has toured internationally and performed with and for well known artists and including composer Karl Jenkins, LA trumpeters Wayne Bergeron (Gordon Goodwins Big Phat Band) and Ron Blake (Greenday).

Trombone – Steve Legge
Steven is the Senior Lecturer for Classical and Jazz Music Enrichment for UWE Bristol's Centre for Music. He has been involved in music education for over 25 years teaching in schools, universities and music conservatoires and continues to perform regularly as a professional trombonist and conductor.

French Horn – Hannah Wilkins
Hannah is a diverse Freelance French horn player based in Bristol. She studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Sibelius Academy, graduating with first class honours. Hannah has enjoyed a rich and varied performing career, working with a wide range of orchestras including Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, British Sinfonietta, Welsh Session Orchestra and Mozart Symphony Orchestra as well as appearing on television and BBC Radio 3.

Brass Jazz lessons - Nick Attwood
Nick is one of our tutors with the UWE Big Band. He specialises in jazz and can provide advice and tips on improvisation and jazz performance.

Membership to CfM is free for students and just £25 per year for staff. To become a member, please complete this registration form for UWE Centre for Music staff and student membership 2021-22.
