Description

This workshop will help you to write better academic English by explaining how to be concise, cautious and impersonal in your writing. You will have the opportunity to identify and practise using these features of good academic writing.

You should read the handout on being concise before the workshop.

The workshop will briefly cover some features of being cautious in writing before some class exercises in identifying these.

This workshop is a part of the Communication Skills for International Students (CSIS) programme. It is aimed at speakers of English as a second language.

Objectives:

  • to be able to distinguish the ways in which academic writing is cautious and impersonal

  • to apply being cautious, concise and impersonal to academic work.
