21st Century Management

Bruce's talk will reflect on the nature of management and leadership in the context of a rapidly changing business and social landscape. Bruce will explore the difference between leadership and management and ask, what does it take to be a great manager at a time when technology, changing work patterns and employee expectations, and new business models are disrupting traditional ways of working. Blending personal experience with the latest Management 4.0 thinking, Bruce will give his perspectives on the world of management and leadership of interest to anyone seeking to get ahead in their professional careers.

Biography

Holding MA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Exeter College, Oxford University, Bruce is currently Chairman of Lloyd's of London and Vice Chairman and Lead Independent Director at Banco Santander SA. He stepped down as Chairman of MoneySuperMarket Group PLC in May 2019 after nine years on the board.

Bruce has a career background in financial services, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Vice President, Insurance Institute of London and Member of the Chartered Institute of Insurers.

He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London.

He was appointed a Companion of CMI in June 2015, and appointed as President Elect and member of the Board of Trustees in July 2016, becoming President in September 2017.

The Bristol Distinguished Address Series provides a unique opportunity to hear about the challenges, issues and decisions being made at the highest level of strategic leadership.

The series is delivered by the Bristol Business School in partnership with ACCA, Bristol City Council, Bristol Junior Chamber, Bristol Law Society, Bristol Media, Business Leader, Business West, CBI, CIPD, CIPFA, CMI, FSB, IoD, ICAEW and the West of England Combined Authority.

Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis for those that have registered. Not everyone who has registered will turn up, so to ensure we have a full house, we allow more registration than there are places. If you arrive late and the lecture theatre is full, you may be able to watch the talk from the live streaming room.
