Date: 18 June 2018 Venue: Emersons Green Library, Bristol Time: 18:30 - 19:30
Cyber Security is about protection and security of what is important to us, within the modern world that we live in. With the rapid advancements of technology, and globally-connected society that we have online, we face numerous new challenges of how best to protect ourselves, and how organisations protect their assets, whilst at the same time adopting new ways of embracing technology.
In this talk, Dr Phil Legg will present an overview of cyber security in the modern world, linking up the technical, physical, and human-behavioural aspects of cyber security, and what businesses and individuals can be doing to better understand cyber security issues.
He will also present an overview of some of the current research in this field, and pose some open questions for the future of cyber security.
Dr Phil Legg is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of the West of England. He is the programme leader for the MSc Cyber Security, accredited by the National Cyber Security Centre and GCHQ.
His primary research interests surround the challenges of human-machine interaction for exploring and understanding cyber security threats, and for building trust between human-machine collaborations, working within the areas of machine learning, visual analytics, and cyber security.
He has worked on collaborative research projects with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI). Prior to joining UWE Bristol in 2015, he was with the University of Oxford Cyber Security Centre, conducting researching into corporate insider threat detection techniques.
