UWE conference on LGBT Youth Issues

This event has now passed.

Date: 10 July 2013
Venue: 2D67, Glendinning Lecture Theatre, Frenchay
Time: 10:00 - 16:00

As a sponsor of Bristol Pride 2013, we welcome teachers and school staff to join us for a free one-day conference on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender youth experiences. This event will support your personal, social and health education (PSHE) teaching at Key Stage 3 and 4.

Teaching about sexual orientation and diversity can be challenging. This day will give you access to the latest research to support your teaching practice.

We're still finalising our programme, but the day will focus on issues such as:

  • The changing experience of LGBT youth
  • LGBT families (including fostering/adoption)
  • Same-sex relationships and domestic violence
  • Faith and LGBT youth

We'll be joined by leading academics and practitioners who'lll provide insight into key areas included in the national curriculum.

Keynote speaker

Professor Eric Anderson, University of Winchester, whose research on sexualities and masculine identities shows an increasingly positive relationship between gay male athletes and sport - and that conceptions of masculinity are becoming more inclusive.
