Wimba Voice

Wimba Voice makes the inclusion of audio-based material in Blackboard easy, you simply record the audio directly through a microphone as opposed to creating and uploading. The following Wimba Voice tools are available:

  • Voice Board - a voice-based discussion board which can also be used for one-to-one vocal exercises.
  • Voice Presentation - allows Instructors to create presentations of web pages alongside voice messages.
  • Wimba Podcaster - a tool which allows the creation and subscription of podcasts, a simple method of distributing multimedia content, most often in the form of audio files.
  • Voice Email - allows e-mails containing voice recordings to be sent to course participants.
  • Voice Authoring - allows Instructors to add voice recordings to course content areas.

For help on using these tools please see the Wimba Voice User Guide (opens in new window).

The Wimba Voice tools (with the exception of Voice Authoring) can can be added directly to content areas within Blackboard courses from the Add Interactive Tool menu. They can also be accessed from Tools menu in your course.

The Voice Authoring tool can be added to content areas via the Build Content menu.

Please Note: If using Internet Explorer 7, the Wimba Voice Authoring tool will not display correctly with the ‘Mashup option’ set to ‘Thumbnail’. It will however display correctly when the ‘Mashup option’ is set to ‘Embed Audit Applet’. This issue has been raised with the product vendors.

Further information and guidance can be found on the Wimba Support Website. If you have any queries about using Wimba Voice within your course(s) please contact the E-Learning Development Unit.
