Course Access

Why is one of my modules not in listed in my Blackboard Courses tab in myUWE or my Welcome tab in Blackboard?

Check which modules you are attached to in the myUWE Marks tab. If the module you are missing is not listed, you will need to make the appropriate School Student & Programme Support (SPS) aware so that they can attach your student record to the module:

If the module is listed in the Academic Record subtab, select the 'View Details' button next to the module in question. If it has a status of 'EE' this means that your enrolment has not been completed. Access to a module in Blackboard will be disabled if your enrolment to it has not been completed 35 working days after the start of term. Please contact the appropriate School Student & Programme Support (SPS) so that they can advise you what is outstanding and update your student record:

During the resit period
During the resit period (from the first run field board date through to the resit run field board date), please be aware of the following:

If you are a referred student:

  • Your access to the first run course will continue.
  • Any automatically generated assignments for the resit will be in the ‘Resit Materials’ content area and will be prefixed with the word ‘RESIT’.
  • Any assignment submissions for the resit will be displayed on the Blackboard Coursework tab and can be identified by the prefix ‘RESIT’.

If you passed the first run and are not resitting:

  • You will still be able to see and access the course from your Previous Courses tab but with limited/guest access.
  • You will still be able to see and access your marks and feedback for Blackboard assignment submissions on the Blackboard Coursework tab. However, during the resit period, you will not be able to access MyGrades to view marks and feedback for other assessment types such as tests, wikis etc. Marks for summative assessments will still be visible in the myUWE Modules & Marks tab.
  • After the resit run field board date, full access to the Blackboard course will be reinstated.

Why are some of my courses 'Unavailable' in Blackboard?

Students will only have access to Blackboard courses that have been made available by instructors - on the Current Modules list in Blackobard, there will be icon showing whether the course is available or unavailable to students. For advice about whether or not your instructor will be using Blackboard for a course, please contact them directly.

Why am i getting a 404 error when trying to open files in Edge?

Following a recent update to the Microsoft Edge web browser, opening some course files in Blackboard results in a 404 error. This is caused by Edge attempting to open the course files in the browser using Microsoft's office.com rather than opening the file itself. The workaround for this issue is either to use a different up-to-date web browser such as Chrome, or set ‘Open Office files in the Browser’ to ‘Off’ in Edge. (Go to Edge Settings > Downloads).

This particular issue only applies to the Edge browser. However, if you do see the error in other browsers it is likely to be a different issue and you should try clearing your browser cache. Please contact the IT Service Desk if you experience further difficulty opening your course files.

Online Assessment

Why am I seeing Late against my assignment submission when I submitted in the late submission window?

Since the introduction of the late submission window at UWE, students will no longer see a late flag against their receipt on the Coursework area for any submissions made after the due date/time but within the late submission window.

However, there are some areas of Blackboard which cannot be controlled by UWE. The Marks or My Marks area of Blackboard will display the word 'Late' where the submission was received after the due date/time. Please be assured that this is not an indication of any marks penalty.

Where do I find my receipt?

Receipts for Blackboard online assignment submissions will be shown on the Blackboard Coursework tab.

Please note: it is your responsibility to check that your submission was successful by viewing your receipt and checking that you can open and view any files you attached to your submission.

Where do I get support for DEWIS assessments?

Students should contact their Module Leader with questions or issues with DEWIS assessments. The Module Leader's email address is displayed in the assessment's initial window under 'Contact Details'.
