UWE BEAT UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL IN RUGBY VARSITY MATCH 14-3

Issue date: 20 March 2001

In the 7th Varsity match held between the two universities, UWE beat University of Bristol 14 - 3 in front of a 2,000 strong crowd at Clifton Rugby Club's pitch at Cribbs Causeway, nr Bristol. Mike Hibbert, Head of Physical Recreation at UWE commented, "It was a tense first half with Bristol scoring first. UWE then pulled through in the second half with 2 penalties, a drop goal and finally a try by Henry Cripps. The game was a tribute to the fitness and stamina of both teams who battled it out on a waterlogged pitch. For UWE this is the icing on the cake, with the team currently top of its league, which includes some very impressive Welsh teams."
