Bristol UWE appoints two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors

The University of the West of England (Bristol UWE) has appointed two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

John Rushforth (pictured), Director of Widening Participation at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), will take up his post on 6th February. John has worked at HEFCE since 1993 and has developed a wide range of good practice guidance for the HE sector for areas including IT, risk management, space management and strategic planning. His duties at HEFCE have included research policy, audit, management review and capital funding. He was previously a senior manager with the Audit Commission, following a number of financial posts in local government.

Steven West, currently Pro Vice-Chancellor, has been promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Steve West joined Bristol UWE in 1995 as Dean of Health and Social Care, one of the University's largest faculties with over 5000 students. His research interests include podiatry and the modernisation agenda of the NHS. He is a member of the Strategic Health Authority for the South West.

The two new Deputies will join Deputy Vice-Chancellor Rob Cuthbert in support of the University's new Vice-Chancellor Sir Howard Newby, who takes up his post on 1st February.

Former Vice-Chancellor Alfred Morris, CBE, retired in December 2005. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Rob Cuthbert is Acting Vice-Chancellor for the interim period until Sir Howard Newby takes up his post.
