The University of the West of England’s (UWE) degree applications have soared by 15% according to application figures released this week by UCAS, the university admissions service. By comparison all applications to universities and colleges in the UK had grown by 8%.

Dianne Francombe, Director of Admissions and International Recruitment said, “It is particularly pleasing to see that applications have increased for all subjects and especially in those areas where graduates are highly sought after by employers such as computing, science and built environment”. Computing and built environment applications are up by 26% and 33% respectively. Some areas have continued in popularity including education where there has been a rise of 64% in applications, art, media and design 18% and land-based studies and sport 39%.

Postgraduate applications to UWE are following a similar positive trend with applications to end of March up 17%, and international applications overall are 4% up on 2004.
