Love Where You Live: Our House, Our Street, Our Community

A partnership campaign called 'Love Where You Live: Our House, Our Street, Our Community' will be running across Bristol this autumn.

Bristol Student Community Partnerships campaign aims to welcome students to Bristol and provide those that are new, and those that are returning, to the city with essential information on settling in, getting involved and being a good neighbour. The campaign is a partnership between both Universities in Bristol and their respective Student Unions, Bristol City Council and the Police Service.

Starting this week, the campaign is made up of two parts; an initial three to four week door to door welcome campaign, followed by a 12 month online campaign focused on the partnerships' website –www.lovewhereyoulivebristol.co.uk

The welcome campaign will see student and staff volunteers from the partnership knocking on doors in student locations across Bristol to welcome them to their local community and promote messages around being a good neighbour, correct waste and recycling, home and personal safety and advice about noise and parties.

There will also be a focus on providing students with information which will help and support them in private rented accommodation.

Whilst the project is particularly targeted towards students moving in to private rented housing for the first time in Bristol, the website will also act as a resource for anyone new to Bristol.

Nigel England, Community Liaison Manager for UWE Bristol, said, “This partnership project seeks to build and maintain good community relations across Bristol. On top of this campaign we will be running welcome evenings and street parties to encourage new students to meet and talk to their new neighbours, and become active members of their local neighbourhood through such things as volunteering and neighbourhood forums.”

Joni Lloyd, Community Liaison Officer, University of Bristol, said, “Student Community Ambassadors from the Universities will be promoting the Love Where You Live campaign in communities, as students move into their new homes, talking about everything from recycling and sustainability, community volunteering to good neighbourliness. Now in its third year, 'Love Where You Live' is helping to create vibrant neighbourhoods in one of Europe's best cities to live in.”

The campaign has been made possible by support received from the Commissioner's Community Action Fund awarded by the Police Community Trust, University of the West of England and University of Bristol.
