Following a recent review, the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has retained its European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award.

The award recognises European universities that provide good employment and working conditions for researchers.

Richard Bond, Head of Research Administration at UWE Bristol, said, “Having the award can add value to funding applications, demonstrating a commitment to good working conditions and career development for researchers. It also shows researchers who might be considering coming to work here that we are committed to their welfare and careers.”

The award aims to ensure that Europe is an attractive place for researchers from all over the globe to work and form collaborations.

There are 291 institutions in total which hold the award, 98 of which are in the UK. This clearly demonstrates the continued commitment universities have to European research collaboration at the present time and into the future.

Professor Steve West, UWE Vice-Chancellor, said, “This is a great achievement and whatever the outcomes of the EU negotiations following the referendum result last week UWE Bristol will continue to keep its doors open to collaboration and reaching out to its many European research partners.”
