The University of the West of England is opening a new nursing education centre at the University of Bath Campus in Swindon. The Swindon Education Centre was originally located at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

This collaborative venture between UWE’s Faculty of Health and Social Care and the University of Bath marks a milestone in the provision of Higher Education opportunities for Swindon and the surrounding area.

The new Swindon Education Centre is now based at the University of Bath in Swindon's Oakfield Campus. The Centre, located 2.5 miles from the Great Western Hospital, contains two large classrooms together with offices for academic and administrative members of staff and provides excellent facilities for students. These facilities include an IT suite and a well stocked library containing a wide selection of books, journals and audio-visual materials including access to specialist health and social care databases. Both the library and IT suite are open six days a week. There is also a canteen for students and staff and there is security on site with ample car parking. Public transport is provided with a reliable bus service from the new Centre to the Great Western Hospital.

The Centre provides support for any student from the Faculty. However, the facilities are primarily focused on both pre-registration/undergraduate Nursing students living in Swindon and Continuing Professional Development students who have the theory content of their course delivered in Swindon.

Steven West, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Care at the University of the West of England said, “I am delighted that we have been able to secure accommodation with the University of Bath. I am looking forward to working with them and the local Health and Social Care community to develop more courses to meet their needs. There is an awful lot of excellent innovative work going on in Swindon and Wiltshire and I hope this move along with the new hospital and plans for a new treatment centre will mark the beginning of a new partnership across organisations.”
