Student filming at Bristol City

UWE Bristol and Bristol Sport have embarked on a new innovative partnership that will see Filmmaking and Journalism students from the University given the opportunity to film live sporting events with professional clubs from Bristol Sport's group.

Students will gain experience filming at matches involving Bristol City, Bristol Rugby and Bristol Flyers, with footage

Rod Gray, Senior Technical Instructor for Filmmaking and Journalism at UWE, says, “We're delighted that more than 50 Film Making and Journalism students have signed up to film sporting coverage for Bristol City, Bristol Rugby and Bristol Flyers this season.

“Teaming up with three professional sports clubs on our doorstep offers our students unique work experience that ties directly into their TV and online production training.”

Andrew Billingham, Bristol Sport CEO, says, “It's a win-win partnership; the students gain valuable experience for their studies by working alongside our highly-skilled communications department.

“At the same time, supporters of our clubs are able to benefit from the additional coverage on Bristol Sport TV and the clubs' individual channels.”

Lynn Barlow, UWE's Director of Creative Industries, says, “We pride ourselves on our partnerships to ensure our students get the very best experiences and opportunities before they enter the world of work.

“Sports coverage is a very popular career ambition for many studying Journalism and Filmmaking and through this new partnership with Bristol Sport they will be able experience the realities first hand.”
