Meet the Employers: UWE Careers Fair is back and bigger than ever

Issue date: 14 October 2014

Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October 2014, 11:00-15:00, ECC

The UWE Bristol "Meet the Employers" Careers Fair is returning to the Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC). This year the event will run across two days, with the Construction and Property Fair taking place on Tuesday 14 October and the Graduate Jobs and Placement Fair being held on Wednesday 15 October.

Over 150 exhibitors from a vast cross-section of industries will set up stands in the ECC, making the event the largest of its kind in the South West. Presentations and workshops will be taking place across the venue, including an 'Ideas Tap Workshop' and 'Working Freelance' presentation, as well as a series of talks by a range of guest speakers, including representatives from The British Council, Philips and Professor J.S. Perry Hobson, Pro Vice Chancellor at Taylor's University in Malaysia.

Students who attend will have the opportunity to network with a variety of employers, discuss opportunities available to them and make a positive first impression.

Sharlene Battle, Product Development Coordinator within the UWE Careers Department says, “Statistics show you are 75% more likely to gain your dream first job if you have successfully engaged in a work placement, work experience or internship, whilst at university. Consequently it is of the upmost importance for the University's Careers service to offer our students the opportunity to get a foot in the door with prospective employers through events such as this.

“This year the University is running a larger fair than in previous years, with exhibitors promoting opportunities for everyone across the board. The last time we ran a fair of this size, we had over 3,000 students attend, so we are hoping for a similar number in 2014.”

Hannah Newmarch, Head of Employer Partnership Services at UWE Bristol says, “We want our students to avoid the pitfall of only worrying about their career as they complete their degree; there are numerous opportunities available to students now, which will enhance their CV. Internships, placements, enterprise and volunteering opportunities are a fantastic way of gaining experience within a chosen field of industry. The UWE Bristol “Meet the Employers” Careers Fair series is an absolute must to attend for students wishing to make that first point of contact between key employers and themselves.”
