UWE Bristol awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws to Andrew Gregg in recognition of his contribution to law.

The Honorary Degree was conferred at the Awards Ceremony of the Faculty of Business and Law on Wednesday 16 July 2014 at Bristol Cathedral.

Andrew Gregg was born in London and attended schools in Oxford and Canterbury, then attended the University of Aix Marseilles, France. After first practising in Sussex and Kent following qualification in 1970, Andrew was then partner at Osborne Clarke in Bristol for 20 years. In 1992 he founded his own firm, Andrew Gregg & Co – now Gregg Latchams Limited – established as one of the City's leading law firms, under Andrew's leadership as Senior Partner for the past 16 years and also as Head of the Notarial Department.

He has a thriving Litigation practice, providing advice and advocacy in matters such as licensing, food safety, environment, health and safety at work, motoring and road transport matters, business crime and inquests.

He has particular interests in motor sports, vintage cars (carefully looking after a 1933 4 ½ litre Lagonda since 1964), sailing, shooting, rugby and farming. He extends both his personal and professional interests sitting on various boards including becoming President of the North Somerset Agricultural Society in 2013, furthering his love of growing his own vegetables.

Andrew has been at the heart of the Bristol Legal Community for the past 40 years as President of the Bristol Law Society and member of the Society's Council; President of the Bristol Law Students Society and Chairman of the Bristol Young Solicitors Group. His contribution and influence to legal practice is not confined to this city, having held positions with the Law Society, the Notaries Society and sitting as a Chairman of the Rent Assessment Panel and Leasehold Valuation Tribunal. He is often to be seen on our local news programmes, providing a sound objective view on a legal issue which has made the headlines.
