The Tobacco Factory provides workshop for UWE Shakespeare students

Issue date: 13 February 2014

On 5 February 2014, Chris Donnelly, an actor from The Tobacco Factory – the independent theatre space in South Bristol – came to UWE to deliver a practice-based workshop to level 2 English students taking the module 'Shakespeare's World of Words'.

Chris talked to students about the process of taking a Shakespeare play from page to stage, gave practical tips for how to approach iambic pentameter, and ended the session by directing students in their own mini-performance of the closing scene of King Lear. This was an instructive and enjoyable event and a good example of how current outward-facing activities are working to enrich the learning experience for our students.
