The Unions, UCU (University and College Union), Unison and UNITE have voted to take nationwide HE sector strike action on 3 December 2013 on pay issues.

They have called for national industrial action on 3 December 2013. This means that the Unions have asked all staff who are members of the Unions at UWE Bristol not to take part in any University activity on that day. Not all UWE Bristol staff are members of the Unions.

It is likely that members of the Unions will be picketing at the entrances to the campuses. Students will be able to pass the picket line to enter the University.

The University hopes to keep as many normal services open as possible and to minimise any disruption to studies. Academic classes and facilities such as Information Services may be impacted but the university aims to ensure that all key services will be open for students.

The Library at Frenchay Campus will be open 24 hours as usual.

All other campus libraries will open at their normal times but some services may be reduced. Students can check the library web site for specific details on the day if any services are going to be reduced at any campus library.

Students will be able to get an up-to-date picture on lectures not running by looking at Blackboard and myUWE.

Where they remain open, Information points across the University will also be able to provide students with updates.

The main information enquiry telephone line will remain open as +44 (0)117 32 85678, but the service is likely to be more limited on that day. Non-urgent enquiries may be better sent by email or delayed until Wednesday 4 December.

The Unions and the University are keen to ensure exams and assessments continue as normal and that students are not disrupted and delayed in attending or submitting. Students are encouraged to leave plenty of time to get to exams or to meet hand in times (14:00). Again any updates will be through Blackboard,myUWE and the main reception digital displays.

Placement students should go to their placements as normal and contact their Head of Department if they experience any problems.
