Around 10,000 UWE Bristol students are expected to attend Freshers' Fair at the University's Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC) on Frenchay Campus on Friday 20 September 2013.
The Freshers' Fair, hosted by the University Students' Union (UWESU) is the biggest in the UK, filling the 4,000 m2 ECC. Over 250 UWESU sports clubs, societies, networks and commercial stalls create a vibrant and exiting environment for new and returning students.
The Freshers' Fair shows the incredible range of opportunities available to students in Higher Education.
Students' Union President Charlie Roper says, “I'm really excited for Freshers' Fair! We are expecting around 10,000 people to attend. The ECC and outside areas will be filled with the buzz and excitement of all our clubs, networks, and societies plus local and national businesses including restaurants, cinemas, nightclubs, and retail giants.
“We have over 250 stalls displaying the full range of activities and opportunities the Students' Union offers, as well as fun and local information about what's happening in and around Bristol. Whatever your interest, new and returning students can get involved and find something fun to get involved with.
“It's so important to leave university with even more than a degree, so it's great to be able to provide so many fantastic opportunities!”
The opportunities available at UWE are vast. Students attending could follow in the footsteps of double Olympic rowing champion and UWE graduate, Pete Reed, who learnt to row by joining UWE Boat Club.
Societies include the UWE Drama Society which has performed five times at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and student volunteers who have spent years building playgrounds as part of the East African Playgrounds charity and will be starting a UWE specific project, bringing a UWE Playground to East Africa.
