The F block gallery at UWE Bristol's Bower Ashton campus is getting ready to exhibit a collection of photomontage images created by students studying for a BA in Illustration, alongside the work of leading practitioners within the field of photomontage and collage.

As well as the exhibition itself on 28 March 2013 at 18:00 work by leading artists working within the photomontage and collage medium, including Graham Rawle, Tom Burns and Michelle Thomson will be auctioned during a private viewing. All proceeds from the auction will go towards funding student Illustration shows at the Truman Brewery, Free Range and D&AD.

Gary Embury, Senior Lecturer in Illustration at UWE Bristol, says, “It seems timely to have an exhibition of photomontage work coinciding with the exhibition at the Tate Britain of work by Kurt Schwitters and collage artist John Stazeker winning the Deutsche Börse photography prize. Photomontage is a medium which continues to be increasingly relevant to artists and illustrators today. In an image saturated world, the appropriation, juxtaposition and collaging of found imagery to create new meaning and uproot convention seems to be more relevant than ever.

“Much of the work on show was produced as part of workshops using the cut up technique developed by the Dadaists and used by writers such as William Burroughs. New textual narratives are created; this is then developed into a visual narrative using photomontage and collage.”

The exhibition is open daily between 26 March – 5 April 2013, 09.00 – 19.00. Please note the exhibition is closed Good Friday, Easter Monday and Tuesday.
