UWE transport professors join academic signatories in critical open letter to Secretary of State for Transport

Issue date: 22 January 2013

Four transport professors from UWE Bristol have signed an open letter from 32 UK transport professors to the Secretary of State for Transport, raising their shared concerns about the current state of transport policy and investment in the UK. The letter has been uploaded to the Transport Planning Society website.

The hard hitting letter mirrors a similar collective appeal by transport experts just over a decade ago and calls for government to work collaboratively with the transport profession if ambitions for integrated transport are to be realised.

Professor Glenn Lyons from UWE Bristol's Centre for Transport and Society said, "If we are to avoid the accumulation of long term problems in the face of short term challenges, our politicians must draw more strongly on the collective and longstanding wisdom available - the country's professoriate is ready to engage."
