UWE Bristol keeps local families active and amused this summer

UWE Bristol is offering children the solution to keep active and entertained during the summer school holidays with a range of different activities.

The Hotshots Holiday Camps are open to children aged 8-13 and welcome children of all abilities to gain knowledge of sport and activities from qualified coaches. The multi-activity camps combine a range of sports including badminton, basketball, climbing, football and netball to provide a fun fuelled summer. The camps are running for six weeks during the summer holidays from Monday 23 July until Friday 31 August 2012.

Children can be dropped off between 8:30 and 9:15 and collected between 16:45 and 17:30. The summer camps cost £22 per day or £100 per week including an online discount by booking at www.uwe.ac.uk/sport. Operations Manager Helen Worboys said, “The Centre for Sport at UWE Bristol aims to provide a fun and enjoyable holiday experience that will encourage youngsters to develop and build on new skills in a safe environment. If your child enjoys taking part in non-stop energy, creative and pure fun activities with friends, then they'll have a fantastic time with us. The facilities at the Centre for Sport offer a vast amount of opportunities. Our staff are qualified, friendly and enthusiastic and provide an outstanding programme for school holidays in which all children can get involved, learn new skills and make new friends.”

The family fun day takes place on Sunday 27 May from 10:00 till 15:00 and will be a fun packed day of indoor and outdoor activities including inflatable fun, football, hockey and other sports. To take part, the fun day will be free to those who pre-register online by e-mailing: socialsport@uwe.ac.uk or just £1 per person on the day. Free car parking will be available; adult supervision required at all times.

The outdoor climbing sessions run from 22 May to 25 September and take place at the spectacular Avon Gorge in Bristol. Anyone from the age of 10 can take part. The cost per session is £15 for adults and £10 for juniors (17 and under).

UWE's Hockey Camps take place later in the summer and provide children the perfect opportunity to try hockey or learn more about the sport. It is designed for 8-14 year olds and involves an introduction to hockey, development of technical skills, invasion principles as well as fun inflatable games and multisport activities. Sessions are coached by UWE Bristol's resident head coach Turloch O'Siochain, in conjunction with Redland Hockey Club. The camps run for three days from the 29 to 31 August. For squash enthusiasts, a similar camp is also planned running from 24-26 July starting at 09:30 and finishing at 15:30 each day.
