UWE Bristol students Tom Allen and Charles Wait-Roberts are set to be racing for Wales at the International Home Countries Regatta this July, following a win in the 2k trial in the pair (2-) in both divisions of the Welsh Open Trials on 24/25 March.

The annual International Home Countries Regatta takes place after the famous Henley Royal Regatta. Selected top crews in men's and women's, junior and senior categories compete in the event to be held in Wales.

Student rower, Charles Wait-Roberts said, “Since coming to UWE Bristol the support for our ambition was never in doubt. The long hours and mileage achieved through the winter paid off alongside the first class coaching and guidance by Rowing coach, Nick Quirke. In addition to this, the Performance Gym at UWE Bristol has helped the practice of elite performance and gave us the extra edge over our opposition.”

Tom Allen added, “The welsh trials this year was a really competitive event, with a large number of athletes trialling, so Charles, Nick (our coach) and I were extremely pleased to win the pairs event in both divisions. We've been doing strength and conditioning work twice a week at UWE Bristol's performance gym all through the winter and it's really starting to show in our strong results. Representing our country in an international event would be a real honour.”
