UWE student reaches finals in national 'Renault Twizy' design competition

Issue date: 08 March 2012

A student at UWE Bristol needs your votes for her design for the new Renault Twizy. Emma Brown, who is a first year Graphic Design student at UWE Bristol, has based her design for the Renault Twizy car livery on the explosive imagery at a firework display. The competition is run by Subtv in association with Renault. Emma submitted her entry after reading about the competition on the Design Week blog.

If Emma wins she will get her design realised and her tuition fees paid for one whole year.

Emma said, “Our lecturers are always encouraging us to enter competitions as this gives us the chance to work to a live brief and the experience is good for our work portfolio. The 'Renault Twizy' is an electric car so I wanted to emphasise its green credentials.

“My design was inspired by a set of photographs I took at a firework display last November. The original image was pink and gold so I manipulated the image and colour on Photoshop to be more relevant to the product. The long exposure captured the trail of the fireworks and the unpredictable nature of their formation. To me, this captured the essence of energy, which is a significant feature of the car.

“I am very excited for my design to have been selected for the final ten – it's been a rewarding exercise to work to a brief set by an external agency. Winning a competition of this scale would create an excellent opportunity to further myself within the design industry.”
