UWE's Foundation in Creative Practices open for late applications

Issue date: 26 May 2011

Students wishing to study Art, Design or Media at UWE in September 2011 still have the opportunity to apply for the Foundation Degree (FdA) in Creative Practices.

Late applications to study at Filton College, Bristol and at UWE's Bower Ashton campus are still being accepted.

Filton College runs FdA pathways in Fine Art, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Photography. The two year course is an opportunity for students to explore traditional, commercial and innovative approaches to creative practices, focusing on their own area of interest within an interdisciplinary environment. Work placements are seen as an important part of the learning experiences, with work-related learning opportunities encouraged throughout the course.

Upon completing the course, many students chose to join the third year of one of UWE's undergraduate courses in Art, Design or Media subjects to 'top up' their qualification to BA level. Others chose to progress direct into a career in the creative industries or start their own creative businesses.

From September 2011 UWE will be offering two exciting new pathways* of the FdA Creative Practices - Writing for the Creative Industries and Art, Design and Media.

Based at the Bower Ashton campus, each pathway is a three year part time course, allowing students to undertake study at undergraduate level, while continuing to work in a related industry. Both place specific emphasis on engagement with the workplace and external organisations in Bristol and beyond. All students will undertake a work placement, focusing on their individual aspirations and specialist interests in addition to a varied programme of seminars, tutorials and that take place on campus.

You can read more about both of these new pathways on the course information page on our website.

Students who successfully complete these part time pathways can progress onto the BA(Hons) Creative Practices programme which also runs part time at UWE's Bower Ashton campus, or go direct into employment.

*both our new FdA pathways are currently subject to validation.
