'Feel Good' at UWE during February

Issue date: 07 February 2011

Students from the University of the West of England are set to keep the winter blues at bay this month with a series of health and wellbeing events as part of Feel Good February'.

Now in its fifth successful year, Feel Good February is an opportunity for students and staff to focus on their health, fitness and wellbeing through a wide range of activities, taster sessions and events to help them get active and 'feel good'.

From stress busting workshops, to postural checks, health checkups and a variety of complementary therapies such as Indian head massage, Tai Chi and Yoga, there are plenty of opportunities for students to boost their health and wellbeing. At the Centre for Sport, it's time to spring into action and try out a new sport at £1 per session, take advantage of the '747' trial gym and exercise membership for a week or get some nutritional advice on the ten week programme 'Weigh- to- Go'. At UWE Volunteering it's time for students and staff to give something back to local charities and organisations by signing up to a range of opportunities.

Other events throughout February include the Chinese New Year celebrations, the monthly Farmers Markets and UWE Students' Union's Refreshers' Fair where students get a second chance to sign up to the range of clubs and societies on offer.

Judy Orme, who leads UWE's Healthy University Group, says, “UWE is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of students, staff and the wider community. Nowadays students frequently juggle their studies with work, as well as an active social life. Feel Good February is an opportunity for them to focus on themselves and how they feel. The University is committed to actively promoting and supporting healthy and sustainable environments for all students and staff. The taster sessions and activities on offer encourage everyone to become involved in new aspects of all that is on offer at UWE as well as incorporating some relaxation, fitness and health awareness into their busy lives.”

For the full range of events, activities and opportunities available to UWE students and staff please see the website - feelgood for full details.
