Tom Shurville accepts his award from ITV weather presenter Becky Mantin (left) and Julie Newlan Tom Shurville, Digital Marketing Consultant at Netcel, has received the Best Graduate Award in the 2008 Hertfordshire Business Awards. Tom graduated from the University of the West of England in 2007 with a degree in Business Studies.

This category, sponsored by the University of Hertfordshire, is presented to a recent graduate now working within the business community who has demonstrated success in a number of key areas, including communication, customer service, initiative and integrity.

After graduating, Tom joined the online team at DSG International, the Hemel Hempstead based head office for Dixons.co.uk where he was responsible for search marketing. He then moved to Netcel in St Albans in 2008.

Nominating Tom, Tim Parfitt, MD at Netcel, said: “Ambitious annual sales targets for digital marketing had already been set when Tom joined Netcel. However, after just 3 months on board, his success in delivering results and in new business generation had resulted in us being 28% ahead of our sales target. He achieved this through entrepreneurism, teamwork and perseverance and he is now managing Netcel's Digital Marketing business unit which includes SEO, PPC and email marketing services.”

“A great find” and “A real asset to Netcel” were comments made by two clients when referring to the results that Tom has achieved and the impact he has made in a short space of time, including increasing the number of search engine referrals to one website by over 150% in three months.

Linda Cinderey, Undergraduate Business Programmes Manager at Bristol Business School, UWE said, “We would like to congratulate Tom on winning the Best Graduate award from the Hertfordshire Business Awards. It is a fantastic achievement and we wish him every success in his future career.”
